about

This was composed and produced shortly after Jon Hassell passed away on June 26, 2021. Rest in Peace, Jon.

It features an effected/harmonized trumpet similar to the sound Hassell first pioneered in the 1970s. The track also pays homage to his combination of world, electronic, orchestral, and jazz elements. On this selection, atop African percussion and field recordings (drawn from my personal collection from my work in Ghana), synths, orchestral samples, choir, and bass provide the foundation for trumpet improvisations.

Any personal proceeds from the sale of this song will go to the Jon Hassell Fund, which is committed to preserving Jon's legacy and supporting causes that he believed in, such as scholarships for musicians and musician's working rights.
